Account Creation Loop: suggested solution doesn't help

Hi there

I am trying to install leopard using leo4all DVD as my previous attempts with updating Kalyway to 10.5.2 failed.
(The original Kalyway was working with all the drivers for my hardware).

So I burned leo4all, put a new SATA HD in my PC and booted the PC. The initial setup went well and it said I need to reboot the computer. After the initial reboot it gets to the window where it wants to transfer my other mac account information which I choose 'No, Do no transfer'. Clicking continue makes it go back to the Welcome screen where you choose country!

So I rebooted the machine with leo4all dvd still inside the drive and when I saw the Darwin prompt I hit F8 and entered -s
After I got the command prompt I tried to follow the instruction mentioned here http://osx86leo4all.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc5
The first command "/sbin/fsck -fy" tries to check the DVD-ROM and not the HD! I even tried "/sbin/fsck -fy /dev/rdisk0"
I continue to the next steps and when I enter:
passwd root
I get a message saying that passwd can not be found!!!

I should say that I am unable to boot my computer after the initial setup without the leo4all DVD in the drive, it just sits there without giving me the Darwin boot loader screen!!!
(My hard disk is bootable and I have tried all the related fdisk commands to make it active).

Any input is greatly appreciated
thanks in advance

I just had the welcome loop problem and got through it by telling the kernel to use 640x480. It just logged me in as admin and told me that the screen resolution was too low and how to do all the stuff it had planed to do. One of which was apparently the networking setup, because all that stuff is fraked up!

Anyways, sounds like you screwed up the bootability of your hd by using all those fsck'ing commands. I'm gonna bet that reinstalling is gonna be faster for you than waiting around for someone to help you, cause it seems like they all go away once they get their computer working properly. Once you do that, use:

"Graphics Mode"="640x480x32"

with all the quotes and stuff and it'll properly skip the welcome loop. Then you're gonna need to figure out how to deal with what ever was making it loop, like networking and such as.

Thanks for suggestion Supasamurai
I didn't use the resolution trick rather I reinstalled the whole thing using MBR mode rather than GUID. This time when I opened the terminal during setup and used
fdisk /dev/rdisk0
It showed me the right name of partition I had chosen during Disk Utility and also showed that it was active.
The setup went smoothly but again I got into account creation loop :(
Fortunately I could boot my machine without leo4all DVD and therefore suggested solution to create a root account using
passwd root
helped me get into Desktop.
Networking wasn't working so I followed instruction found here
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=80512
and it fixed it but following instruction in
http://nvinject.free.fr/downloads.php
for nVidia 8800GTS didn't help to install my video card :(
(I had success following those steps and enabling my card when I used Kalyway DVD)
Anyway, I am gonna reinstall it again this time and hope that everything works.

OK
I reinstalled everything and this time video worked but had to do the above steps to enable networking.
I found another glitch which was related to connecting to other computers in local network,i.e. when trying to use Finder's "Connect to Server" it gave me error message saying that the URL I entered was not recognized although I was using the right one, either afp:// or smb://
I followed the steps posted here
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=92989&st=580#
to fix it. It seems it's symbolic link that's gone bad :)

I will keep this post updated if I come across other problems

You can also just take the Disk out of your tray, and restart the system. You should be able to get into the desktop by then.

Please read my reply above. Doing what you suggested was not working when I chose "GUID Option" in Disk Utility. Although it worked when I chose MBR

Than stick with MBR for now.

Hi there,
I'm having problems with the account looping as well.

First of all, I have to tell that, after installation, I had a kernel panic that could be solved typing "-x cpus=1" when booting. I don't understand mac verbose codes, in a way that I saw this one at insanelymac. Here I've found just "cpus=1", but it didn't work. I don't know the diference by writing "-x" in the beginning but the thing is that it worked and now the system can go to the account creation screen.

Well, once stucked in the account looping problem, I restart my pc, and type "-x cpus=1 -s" to go to the prompt so I can try the solution posted here. Note that if I write just "-s" to go, after writing the lines posted here to solve the looping problem, the system crashes with the kernel panic I've mentioned before. So, going with "-x cpus=1 -s", writing the solution described here and then writing exit, the system takes me to the account creation screen as spected but with the same looping problem. Am I doing anything wrong? We have to "exit" after typing the lines suggested here, aren't we?

Ah, and I already tried to turn off the network card as well.

My system is a:
ECS geforce6100SM-M with MCP61S & ACL660 chipset
2 GB DD2
Athlon X2 5200+
Geforce 8600GT

forgot to say:

I installed on a 80GB IDE ATA and I burned the .iso twice with minimum speed.

thks.
